I will tell you that it is a pretty decent card (for what i've heard) although If you were willing to spend a little extra cash, I would recommend the HD4850two questions (GPU, PSU)
well don't the ATI cards have a little bit steeper power requirements? anyways, keep in mind that it has 2 12 volt rails. i know you can't just say 15+15=30 amps but it would be somewhere around there, right? the thing i keep telling myself is, is that those power requirements are for a fully loaded system. i only have 1 hard drive, and my processor doesn't exactly suck a lot of power so... would i be able to get away with it, all things considered?
I have a similar specs as your pc goes. Like AMD athlon 64x2 3800+ (2.0) I have 2 gigs of ddr ram not sure what hurts they are running at but I do have a 500wat psu that can run a 8800 gt overclock 256mb and with this card it has preform for me quite well and far as the 9800gt gpu goes I'm not sure how the 2 would compare to each other cause you can't go by like mine is a 8800 and that is a 9800 cause you would think the 9800 should be better but I'm not sure if that is true or not.

You should look up that card a read all about it cause that is what I did for months before settleing on the card that I have now.
yes, thats actually exactly how i am. i've been reading up on this for quite a while. the specs of the 9800 are exactly the same, except the manufacture process is smaller. so it generates less heat and uses less power. what resolution/ settings can you run crysis on and what FPS do you get?
bump?
You'll need to ask this question to some one else cause I don't have crysis. From what I have heard is that Crysis is a tough game to get to play smoothly on some pcs. I don't care for that game. I use to play FPS games on my pc but scence I have a 32'' LCD HDT/ monitor and it isn't on a desk this monitor is like 3' away and I'm having to use a moble desk that has wheels and I have a wireless key board and mouse and so I just stick with RTS games they are easyer to play with with a settup like this.
Just pickup a psu with 500+ watts with 26+ Amps on the 12v rail and is 70%+ efficiency rating. http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3276573%26Sku=ULT-LSP650 - 650 watt psu $50
Corsair VX-450W
An x2 3800 will probably bottleneck that GPU.
Bottleneck only occurs when the cpu is below the min requirements for the card and when a program'game wants a better cpu.
That CPU is below recommended CPU requirements for new games, it will bottleneck newer games. Its an old cpu, and wasn't that great even when it was new.
Well that is what you think. I beg to differ cause my pc as I said before I tink is 2+ years old and has done just fine for me and the only game that tends to slow down when I goto play on it is SC and I think the gpu is fine it is just that the pc can't handle this game.

Some day I plan to build my own pc but until then I have to stick with what I have.

I have a 500 watt psu with an 8800gt overclocked 256mb and it plays all current games that I have except for SC that is and even at low settings it still stutters.

Aside from that game C%26C Red Alert 3 and the rest of the the C%26C games I can play all on the max setting well not the max but really all but the rez I put on max.
Well, its not what I think. I had that same cpu/gpu combo. It bottlenecks. Just because games run at good frame rates doesn't mean there isn't a bottleneck. You'd get even better frames with a better CPU.Maxwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14118514736948992377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3370927072905071621.post-79941907356991552592010-04-15T21:10:00.000-07:002010-04-15T21:10:10.241-07:00Intalling Display DriversI have installed display drivers before, but I never uninstalled my previous one before installing the new one. But If I uninstall my current driver, wouldn't that stop my display adapter from working properly? I just don't get how it works to uninstall my current driver before installing the new one, because that would leave my display adapter with no driver at all. Can someone please point me in the right direction here. Oh I am also running SLI. Intalling Display Drivers
Just uninstall your driver from add/remove programs, and reboot. Windows will then use the default VGA driver. Then install your new driver.Intalling Display Drivers
Okay thanks I'll try that.
One more question before I install this new driver. The driver I am wanting to install is the Nvidia 178.24 driver, but my gpu isn't listed on the supported gpu list. I figured it was just because I have a mobile gpu.Would it be a wise decision to install that driver anyway? *Edit, nope it won't install. During the installation it say that no drivers were found that were compatable with my hardware. Oh well guess I'll just keep my old driver.Maxwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14118514736948992377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3370927072905071621.post-20911601314258149802010-04-15T21:09:00.003-07:002010-04-15T21:09:53.732-07:00Last Q about if this stuff will workOK just wondering if all this stuff will work together? i think it does just wanna make sure :) thanks1. What brand and model of PSU you got? It better be a brilliant one!How is this gaming pc??
All I got to say is that most likely your 500 watt psu wont power that card. Average Amp ratings for good 500's is low 30's. The better 500's do max of 40 some Amps. unless you have a $100+ 500 watt psu, you need to get a new psu 600 watts or better with 40's or better Amp 12v rating.
I run my GTX 260 on a 650 watt Corsair TX 650. And what speakers do you have?
Going from a realtech88xx to a x-fi insnt that big upgrade, but to an good card migth be a diffrence.

I can tell you that a sub $50 card will not make a diffrence, but a good $100 card will.

So it's about what card you get, not that it's just a dedicated sound card, cos there a bunch of lame cards out.

...But using computer speakers with a expencive soundcard is a waste, even the best computerspeakers is weak and sound bad when compared to a decent Amp and speakers.
Depends on the card.
got 2.1 sony srs d211 surprisingly gd value bass is decent but i see your arguement and it might be better for me to get better speakers first any recomendations i paln on getting them and maybe the sound card all on boxing day in sales
Yes it should make a diference.

I have a surround sound speakers a z-5450 Logitech speakers and what a difference it maks imo.

I used to have a 100 + sound card and it only last about 1 month or so before it died on me but I whent out and bought a 30.00 card and it has lasted longer then that card like 5 or more months and I'm not joking. I'm not sure if I had a bad card to begin with or what but this older cheaper one works just fine for me.

I used to have a soundblaster extremegameing sound card and I love that card a lot but that is the one that lasted like a month or so.

Now I have a sound blaster se and that card has gone farther then the other one. It isn't worth it in my opinion.
ok im gona dis regard the last comment as it seems to be the minority and how about this for sound card the Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer as for speakers im not to sure im just gona buy it all at once to make it simpler
ok im gona dis regard the last comment as it seems to be the minority and how about this for sound card the Creative X-Fi Xtreme Gamer as for speakers im not to sure im just gona buy it all at once to make it simpler
Im gonna be totally honest with you about my oppinion, i would not by a soundcard just for gaming, just not worth the little improvment from that kind of sound, i mean, the quality on most games sound is not the best and therfor a soundcard will not be the weakest link. When talking about sound we have a very high rate of ''plazebo'' many people think it sounds better just because it's a expencive card or they have fairly expencive computer speakers, and yes i't actually may be so but with the ecuipment many have they really wont know the diffrence of good or better. I am not generalizing, i said ''many people'' and not all. I am an audiophile, i really care about good sound but while gaming it's not all that important many other variables take in to count when gaming such as viewing and the game itsealf, but while playing a good recorded DVD musik thru the PC it's a big diffrence in clearity and crisp. (If you got the PC connected digital to an AMP/receiver that have fairly good quality, and matched with good speakers.) And while recording musik in the studio a great sound card will show how good it is, but for casual gaming and MP3 musik any motherboard soundchip/card will do just fine.So what it really comes down to is what your main usage for the card is, and if it's the upgrade you really want.I would recomend the card in my rig, has great components. (same as found in creatives moust expencive pro studio cards.) And sound amacing for it's value, great for studio use and very, very low noise. and perform outstanding in musik. ouch.., this was a long post for such short q but atleast im honest and not trying to sell you a soundblaster. XD...
im not just using it for aming i listen to a lot of music and watch films on my my pc i just thought the gamer title was just marketing thats all and im not just getting better speakers for sound i want 5.1 for films and games, i dont have a single use but many and thought that my sound was alcking
im not just using it for aming i listen to a lot of music and watch films on my my pc i just thought the gamer title was just marketing thats all and im not just getting better speakers for sound i want 5.1 for films and games, i dont have a single use but many and thought that my sound was alcking
All gigabyte p35 are shipped with onboard soud able to output 5.1 channel sound.

If this is the problem, you migth get new speakers witch actually are 5 (+ subwoofer) seperate speakers. ;)
it does make a difference... i have a Soundblaster X-FI Platnium hooked to a Onkyo 908 System hooked with Optical... and trust me it makes a big difference... well unless you get the new Ati Radeon 4870x2 which has HDMI with Full 1080p, if you want great sound get a Platnium version of a Creative card and use the optical inputs... but i guess if you only have 2.1 sound then there really aint going to be a big changeMaxwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14118514736948992377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3370927072905071621.post-56512818488261912010-04-15T21:09:00.000-07:002010-04-15T21:09:05.923-07:00Best Mo-Bo for this Card?XFX GeForce 7600 GSI purchased this card a while back. I get 14762 on my system as it is.
Your score isn't low at all...Maxwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14118514736948992377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3370927072905071621.post-85883630793039060022010-04-15T21:08:00.002-07:002010-04-15T21:08:33.783-07:00my 3dmark score any remarks ?i just scored 11394 on 3d mark 06 , is it good or bad ? or normal for my rigmy 3dmark score any remarks ?
The Athlon is holding your PC back. You will see a huge jump if you switch to a fast current intel dual-core, and a bit of a jump if you can overclock your cpu. With the machine in my sig, I got 14762. Your video card is a decent amount faster than mine, so the cpu seems to be the issue. That score is about right for your system though, as I got right at 10000 with my old 2.6ghz athlon 64 x2 and my video card.
i cant upgrade now , and it seems that o'cing is a bit hard , so i'll have to wait till i upgrade the motherboard and cpu to a quad/phenom:? , i feel sorry for the gpu didnt think that my cpu would be such a bottleneck
3dmark is highly processor based when you get your score above 8,000. Amds score very low in 3dmark
AMD Phenoms get beat by Intel Core 2 Duos in pretty much everything. He will see the benefit when he upgrades, i made the jump from an AMD X2 as well.
yea i noticed , in the cpu test i only got 1-2 Fps . what is a decent intel quad core for a reasonable price? , would i notice such a huge imporvement in gaming ?am running crysis all high . 1650 res. 4 x AA , and getting around 25-40 Fps , and all other games with flying numbers
If you must have quad then a Q6600 is the best value for money.
yea i noticed , in the cpu test i only got 1-2 Fps . what is a decent intel quad core for a reasonable price? , would i notice such a huge imporvement in gaming ?am running crysis all high . 1650 res. 4 x AA , and getting around 25-40 Fps , and all other games with flying numbers
Thats normal, graphics cards cant generate fast graphics. The thing is though, that test is doing alot of measurements, thats where the processor is struggling. A quad core would be faster, not an amd though. Amd just cant hold its ground in processors.
<font size=''2''><font face=''arial,helvetica,sans-serif''>You probably won't notice as big a difference in performance in real games as you did in the benchmark if you upgrade. On my 2.6ghz athlon x2 with my video card, I was averaging 33fps @1680x1050 on all high settings in crysis, dx9. With the upgraded cpu, I'm now averaging 37 fps. Your minimum frame rates will be higher, resulting in the impression that games are running much faster, when in fact they are just much smoother. However in 3dmark06 in the intro level of the benchmark, my old X2 was topping out at 64-65 fps, whereas with my current cpu (same video card mind you), I'm over 100fps.
<font size=''2''><font face=''arial,helvetica,sans-serif''>Just another note on the real gaming performance gain with a fast Core 2 over an AMD x2, some games will run alot faster. World in Conflict was one example, where I gained 10-15fps at times because that game is so hard on the cpu.
its the processer I don't even bother with 3dmark why download a 400mb program just to tell me my pc sucks
LOL.. your PC doesn't suck. I am planning to travel abroad, and I am intending to take my 30GB HDD camcorder with me. Now, this camcorder does its best work in its Ultra quality mode, but at 30GB I can only squeeze in about 7 hours of footage in the camera before I have to offload.BUT, I'm trying to avoid taking a laptop with me. I don't have much use for it in my trip, and it's a bit of a ''hot'' item in travel, if you get my drift. Not to mention it's bulky and I lack a suitable travel adapter for it (its standard power block is three-pronged: USA only). What I am looking for, then, is a good USB Bridge--a device that will allow me to connect the camera (USB2) on one end, a USB hard drive into another port, and then offload the works former-to-latter.That said, I have done some research and have determined that the device I need will need the following qualifications:

The device must come with an AC adapter capable of running off of 240V (my destination country is the Philippines--they use two-pronged plugs much like the US but use a 240V/60Hz AC cycle). This is because of the size of the data transfers involved (up to 30GB). Such transfers are likely to wipe out battery-only devices before they finish.

It must work with a Panasonic SDR-H18 camcorder and either a WD, Maxtor, or SimpleTech externally-powered USB hard drive. Though all of the above qualify as Mass Storage Devices, I've noted that many of the ones popularly on the market are finnicky and may not see all devices equally. Also, some of the devices balk at big files (which would be expected from a camcorder).

Can anyone assist me on this and point me to a good device that preferably isn't too expensive, preferably uses USB2 speeds, but most important can get my needed work done?Maxwellhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14118514736948992377noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3370927072905071621.post-79204634689062541962010-04-15T21:06:00.000-07:002010-04-15T21:06:10.084-07:00Help needed on picking a monitorIf you do go with a monitor I recommend a 22'' LG widescreen. NVIDIA will supercharge the fastest-growing segments of the PC market - netbooks, small form factor and all-in-one PCs - by enabling these products to play rich media and popular games in high definition. At the same time, the Ion Platform will create new and exciting premium PCs that fit in the palm of your hand.

The formula is simple: Combine the highly rated GeForce 9400 GPU found in new desktop and notebook PCs with the Intel Atom CPU. This combination (code-named Ion Platform) enables the smallest premium PC experience available today, making it ideal for the exploding category of mini-notebooks and compact PCs.

Unlike existing chipsets paired with the Atom CPU, the GeForce 9400 GPU delivers up to ten times the graphics performance, plays full-spec 1080p high definition video, supports the full Windows Vista user interface and the upcoming Windows 7, and runs popular PC games such as Call of Duty 4. The GeForce 9400 GPU does all of this in about one-half of the space of today's Atom CPU-based solutions with minimal affect on battery life.

''Until now, a high definition affordable PC was an oxymoron,'' said Drew Henry, general manager of the MCP business unit at NVIDIA. ''The Ion Platform pairs the GeForce 9400 with a truly great Intel Atom CPU and lets consumers surf the Internet, play top games, edit photos, and watch videos all in high definition. This will really energize the PC market in 2009!''

''NVIDIA's Ion Platform transforms Atom-based PCs into capable mainstream gaming platforms,'' said Mark Rein, vice president of Epic Games. ''Epic is excited about the growth potential offered by these new affordable premium PCs.''

''Spore looks and runs great with netbook and nettop PCs featuring GeForce GPUs and Atom CPUs,'' said Lucy Bradshaw, executive producer, Spore. ''Gamers will be impressed with the Ion platform's power and portability.''

''Netbooks have exploded onto to the scene, and we are excited that netbook users can now experience full Blu-Ray playback in the smallest form factors with a GeForce 9400 and Intel Atom CPU with the CyberLink PowerDVD player,'' said Alice H. Chang, CEO of CyberLink Corp.''All I can say its little, heres some pics...<img src=''http://www.megagames.com/news/images/NVIDIA_Ion_platform_large.jpg'' border=''0'' /> <img src=''http://www.megagames.com/news/images/NVIDIA_Ion_reference_PC_large.jpg'' border=''0'' /><img src=''http://www.nvidia.com/content/pico/reference_photo6.jpg'' border=''0'' width=''452'' height=''251'' /><img src=''http://www.nvidia.com/content/pico/reference_photo3.jpg'' border=''0'' width=''452'' height=''251'' />Nvidia And Intel Launch Ion Platform
<font size=''2''><font face=''arial,helvetica,sans-serif''>That little thing is awesome. Building a higher-end gaming computer for under $1k
I've never had a processor that needed a heatsink before. What would you suggest?
The stock heatsink is fine if you don't plan to overclock. If noise is a concern, your video card will most likely generate much more noice than the CPU fan.I do not recommend a velociraptor drive. You will get much, much better performance out of two regular drives in RAID than from a single velociraptor drive. For nearly the same price you can buy two 1 TB drives and RAID them. Unless you plan to purchase two velociraptor drives in RAID, then it's a waste of money.
You forgot the DvD burner, Also thats a pretty expensive harddrive, considering you can get a 7200rpm for 1/4 of the price.
Change the mobo to thishttp://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128359 I would acctually get a e8500/e8400 over a q6600.
Thanks for all the replies. RAID splits the data across two (or more hard drives). You effectively get double the reading and writing speeds. While Velociraptor drives are nice, they are only about a 50% increase in RPM speed, and will still suffer issues of seek time, latency, and SATA bandwitdh common to single drives. RAIDed drives suffer from these issues a lot less easily giving you an %80 to as much as a %150 boost in speed. The results are even more impressive when you RAID high performance drives like the raptors. Thats why i think its pointless to buy just a single raptoor except under very special circumstances.
Hmm... so I should probably opt for a couple of 250GB drives, then, rather than the one I currently have chosen. My computer knowledge is seriously dated.
