Windows can't update after virus. :(

Alright, a while back I got a virus. Not that big of a problem, just downloaded Avast! and did a scan and bamn, dead. (stupid AVG was fail though) The thing is Windows Vista still can't update. First time I try it it'll run for like two seconds then gives me error 80072efd which microsoft.com says...

''usually means that a program running on your computer is preventing Windows Update Services (SVCHOST) from accessing the Internet. Programs that might do this include firewalls, anti-spyware software, web accelerators, Internet security or antivirus programs, and proxy servers.''

So I check my fire wall exceptions for SVCHOST and it's not on there. So I try to add it and I get an error message saying ''Windows Firewall cannot add svchost.exe to the list of exceptions.'' When I try to download directly from their site FF tells me...

File Not Found

Firefox can't find the file at http://update.microsoft.com/microsoftupdate/.

* Could the item have been renamed, removed, or relocated?

* Is there a spelling, capitalization, or other typographical error in the address?

* Do you have sufficient access permissions to the requested item?

What the hell? I've scanned my computer a bunch of other times afterwords and Avast! didn't find anything so I'm pretty sure the virus is gone. I even tried combofix and it didn't help. (I still have the log if it'd help at all) What do I do?:(

PS: Or if you know a better site to ask this please tell.
