';Low Price'; SSD Drive worth it?

I've done a little bit of reading on SSD's and am still on the fence on their value.... Anyway Frys has the 32G Patriot SSD for $70 after rebate. The price is decent compared to some other SSD prices but is it really worth it? My current setup has a single 750G SATAII drive. I'm considering getting a SSD and putting Vista on it, but is the performance increase worth it?';Low Price'; SSD Drive worth it?

Maybe worth a try. If you buy it come back and report your results versus SATAII drive like boot up time.';Low Price'; SSD Drive worth it?
for 70 dollars that seems like a good deal. However, I read that the lower end SSD drives aren't as fast as some of the new high density SATA HDs, so you should google this a bit before making the purchase.
i googled it earlier and it showed that a SSD drive was more that twice as fast as a velocirapator? @10000RPM
i googled it earlier and it showed that a SSD drive was more that twice as fast as a velocirapator? @10000RPM
I wouldn't be surprised if that were true. The SSD is without a doubt the future of harddrives. If you got 70 bucks to spend, I would say it would be worth a try.

Its not worth it right now. Wait for the technology to matur. Right now you need a drive with onboard cache or a couple of drives in Raid with a controller with onboard cache or else you will get some stuttering. Alot of people are having issues with these SSD's now I know the Intel SSD's and the upcoming OCZ drives have an onboard cache. The write speed sucks on all SSD's. These things are nowhere near twice as fast as a WD velociraptor.

I've read about how some people get stuttering but I've also found some info on tweaks that can be done to reduce/remove the stuttering. I guess I'll have to try it out and see if it's worth the $70.... :)
I would wait. Toshiba is introducing a new line of SSDs this year.''Toshiba's second-generation SSDs bring increased capacity and performance for notebook computers. They utilize an advanced MLC controller, which is also compatible with further advanced processes, that achieves higher read/write speeds, parallel data transfers and wear leveling to optimize performance, reliability and endurance. The drives enable improved system responsiveness with a maximum sequential read speed of 240MB per second (MBps)(2) and maximum sequential write speed of 200MBps enabling an improvement in overall computing experience, and faster boot and application loading times.''FULL STORY
I've heard bad things so i'm staying away for a while.
cheap SSD's defeat the purpose of the SSD, there not that quick and are usually not built that well.
