OK..Having problems with USB drivers..

I for some reason once in a while have problems with my USB drivers. It will work sometimes and sometimes not. The only thing that gives me problems really is my dance pad I have hooked up to a ps2/usb adaptor.I go to device manager and hardware and it shows the usb device is not working. Now keep in mind my k/m are usb and my card reader is usb and they work just fine. What you think the cause of this is?I dont use usb2.0 as I dont have any service pks installed.
