Intel Core i7 or Intel Core 2 Extreme. Which is better?

Hey Gamers! Thinking about upgrading recently? Well I could say I'm well on my way to making the step into the Quad Core world. My current Pc is a:AMD Athlon 6000+ Dual Core processor MSI K9N SLI Platinium MotherboardXFX GeForce 9600GT Video CardI did my research on the top Quad Processors for elite gaming and it boils down to the new Intel Core i7 or Intel Core 2 Extreme. I compared the processors that with in the $600 range and they look to me that the Intel Core i7 would be better but there's still a bit uncertainty bout which is better. The new stuff or the word-of-mouth champ? Do anyone have any of these processors and could advise me which is the better buy. Oh I checked out the prices from Tigerdirect.Thanks. ''top Quad Processors for elite gaming'' well that's a mouthful :? IMO the Q6600 is the best buy, followed by the Q9400, i7 920.Intel Core i7 or Intel Core 2 Extreme. Which is better?
If youre gonna stick with your cpu, then the i7. If you change computer parts as if clothing, then the C2E.
Well I would keep your cpu until it cant perform in games. Because right now Quads are almost pointless for gaming.

And spend that 600$ on a new video card instead.
Dont dpend $600 for a cpu that will be worth half that in 6 months. If you are buying a new board and ram, I would go with an i7 920. The bandwith is amazing with those.
spending 600 dollars is redic but i guess people would pay hundreds more for the extra FPS.
Tootsack tootsack tootsack!!!!!!
i7 for sure. dual core is still good, but will be a thing of the past soon. Plus, the i7 cores come up to 3.2 mhz, and the ones that don't overclock very well. the i7 920 can easily be overclocked to 2.6-3.0ghz. Just i7. its all about the i7 right now.
